Full Episode: If someone were to invite you to a shindig, what sorts of things would you expect to encounter? Is there a particular type of food or drink you’d hope to taste, or a style of music that you think would be a part of the space? Of course everyone would answer those questions in their own ways, but for one composer, a shindig comes with a very specific sound. Hi – I’m Loki Karuna, and on this edition of NoteWorthy I’d like to invite you to a shindig written by composer Brian Raphael Nabors.  Brian hails from Birmingham, AL, and has had his music performed across the south, throughout America, and even overseas! No matter where you might hear the music of Brian Raphael Nabors, one thing that you can count on hearing, is his love of home and the sounds that represent the lived experiences that make him who he is. This work, titled Shindig , showcases the way he utilizes contemporary classical alongside hints of that good ole southern music that he grew up with.  Today, Brian serves as assistant professor of composition at the University of Louisiana School of Music, and continues to press forward writing music that’s fit for chamber spaces, concert halls, and any sort of musical shindig that you can imagine. His contributions to contemporary classical are immense, and he’s definitely one of today’s most NoteWorthy composers. Noteworthy is a production of WDAV classical public radio.
